Música Pobre

Música Pobre was a six month interdisciplinary training and creation project developed by BoCA, Biennial of Contemporary Arts, in Portugal, bringing together students from three music universities to explore new approaches to sound, performance and collective artistic practice.

The project was developed through a transdisciplinary process that brought music into dialogue with choreography, visual art, anthropology and acoustics. Rather than approaching music only through conventional performance, participants were encouraged to question how sound is produced, perceived and experienced across different artistic and spatial contexts.

The project was directed by Filipa Francisco, Pedro Tudela, Paulo Raposo, Filipe Reis, José Luís Bento Coelho and Vera Mantero, whose combined practices in choreography, sound, visual art, anthropology and acoustics shaped the creative process.

Across the six month period, I took part in workshops, collaborative experimentation and performance development, working alongside other musicians to explore improvisation, listening, movement, space and unconventional approaches to music making.

The process culminated in a series of three public performances, bringing together the material developed throughout the project.

Música Pobre became an important experience in my artistic development, expanding my understanding of music beyond conventional concert settings and strengthening my interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, experimentation and collective creation.
